Quran Competition Planned for Kyrgyz Women
It will be organized by the Central Asian country’s Muslims Religious Department (Muftiat) in cooperation with the Dar-ol-Quran religious organization.
Memorization of the entire Quran and memorization of 15 Juzes (parts) of the Holy Book are the categories of the contest.
The provincial round is scheduled to start on Wednesday, December 22, and the top contenders will compete in the final round, slated for December 26.
Winners will receive cash prizes and four of them will be awarded Umrah pilgrimage packages.
The Central Mosque of Imam Sarakhsi in the capital, Bishkek, will host the final stage of the Quranic event.
The mosque was earlier this year the venue for a Quran competition for the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Kyrgyzstan is a landlocked country with mountainous terrain in Central Asia. It is bordered by Kazakhstan to the north, Uzbekistan to the west and southwest, Tajikistan to the southwest and China to the east. Its capital and largest city is Bishkek.
Official sources estimate that 80 percent of the country’s population is Muslim.
